So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. here's a vid i stumbled across on youtube posted by chicagoan99...it's a mash up of original music sampled by kanye west...of all of the comments regarding the vid, about 97% were negative, criticizing him for not being unoriginal, talent, arrogant and blah, blah, blah...but he gets props from me...there's a wide range of music genre and artists that he samples from...i think it's a great talent in and of itself to be able to hear something, internalize it, interpret it, and then re-invent it in a way that is a true expression of you.

so i say, keep doing you kanye...and other artists of various genres and mediums and keep blessing the world with your art.

crackheads gone wild...have u seen it? OMG...just so sad...i can't even fake jacks. i watched it the other night and i laughed my ass off. but, i swear, i was very ashamed on the inside.

i didn't judge those people because i know there was something terrible that happened in their lives, or something that was missing, some type of void they tried to fill, that made them start this often deadly, always destructive habit. we've all had this happen to us, we just made a different choice in how we would handle it; a different coping mechanism. a few seconds in time and a critical decision is all that sets us apart...think about it.

in a fox news report, the producer of crackheads gone wild, daryl smith, claims he's just trying to show people what happens if you do drugs, mission accomplished. in the "documentary," it's stated that they're just trying to educate people, each time i heard that, i though to myself, "riiiight." i don't know what happened off camera, but i know that on camera, there was no information provided to the addicts on places they could go to get help, or any other type of resource offered to them.

just one question, is it even legal for them to get a release from people who are under the influence of a controlled substance?? how much did they get paid to appear on film?? what did they do with the money?? was any of the money made from the film donated to some time of recovery or drug rehabilitation program??

ok...so here goes nothing...i've finally decided to join the blogosphere...it seems easy enough to just add my two cents to the things i see going on the the world everyday...yeah right, lol, i doubt that...

one thing i notice when i look at other blogs, is that they generally have a purspose, or i should say, a scope of what they cover from day to day...i suppose that may be what sets this onerandomchick blog apart from some of the others...i don't have that scope, hence the name!

if asked, of all of the people i know, what word would you use to discribe this chick, one of the top 3 answers would be "random!"

and, oh yeah, as you can see, i don't do capital letters, or proper sentence structure for that matter! call me rebelious, lol...it's probably because i'm forced to follow the rules in every other aspect of my life that i refuse to do so here...
